Mastering the Art of Graphite Transfers: Techniques and Tricks

Welcome back artists, today we will be looking at transferring designs with Graphite pencils! You can use this method to transfer onto all kinds of mediums, from paper to furniture and dried pottery!

The supplies needed for this project include:

  • A printed design, if you’re looking for inspiration, check out our Design Library

  • A soft pencil like a 4B-8B drawing pencil (HB will work if it’s all you have)

  • Something to transfer onto

  • Tape

To start, flip your printed design over. Color the entire back of your design with the pencil. Place your printout graphite side down onto the paper or object you want to transfer onto. Tape the printout down so that it doesn’t shift during the transfer.

Sharpen your pencil and then trace the lines of your design. Once you’re confident you’ve traced all the lines of your design, lift a corner to double-check. If the design is fully traced, you can remove the paper and tape. That’s it! This is a quick versatile transferring method.
